About us

Company

Aktsiaselts Elva E.P.T. is a company based on Estonian capital, specializing in peat extraction and sale of peat products in Sangla in southern Estonia.

Today, our production area covers more than 600 hectares, from which we ship extracted peat to customers all over the world. Most of the extracted peat is refined and marketed as a packaged product.

In addition to peat production, we also manufacture and sell a range of peat production and packaging equipment.

Elva E.P.T. is a stable employer of 45 people, most of whom work in peat production and packing in Väike-Rakke, while a smaller number are employed in our metal products division in Elva.

History
AS Elva E.P.T. was founded in 1991, but peat production goes back to 1962, when our predecessor opened the first 30 hectares of peatland in the Sangla bog for production. The production area has now grown to 630 hectares.

In 1992, a packing plant was built next to our peat bog. In the spring of 2000, we started the production of 6 m3 Big Bale packed in plastic film.

In 2001, we started various metalworking activities. We started manufacturing vacuum harvesters, first for our own use and later, as our skills and experience grew, for sale.

We currently produce a range of machinery and equipment for just about every peat production application.

Peat and peat products

The peat used in our products is horticultural peat, used in the growing of plants both in greenhouses and in the open. The peat supports the growth of cabbage, lettuce, onions, mushrooms, ornamental and house plants and tree seedlings. In addition, it is used to produce seedlings for a number of crops: tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, watermelons, rice, bananas, etc. To date, there are no better alternatives to peat.

At the peat bog, we extract all peat in the form of milled peat using special peat extractors, both vacuum and mechanical. Our peat production complies with all applicable requirements and regulations to ensure that our activities have the least possible impact on the environment.

Two-thirds of the milled peat we produce is packaged and sold in the form of 6 m3 Big Bales, which amounts to 40,000-45,000 Big Bales per year. Before packaging, we sort the peat into different fractions on a screening line and adjust the pH level with additives if necessary. Packing takes place on various peat baling presses, which output Big Bales packed on a wooden pallet and wrapped in film.

The rest of the peat is marketed in bulk to Estonia and other European countries. We use road transport to transport peat to Estonia and neighbouring countries, and bulk carriers for marine transport to more distant destinations.

Distribution and logistics

We mainly supply our peat to customers around the world for use in professional horticulture. Our principle is that every customer is important and that the needs of all customers are met, wherever they are in the world.
